FAQ’S

Dermal fillers are made from hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring substance within the body. They are essential for adding elasticity and volume within the dermis. They are safe and proven effective in restoring volume loss to the face and lips.

At Fine Line Clinical we use high-quality products with a proven evidence base and long safety records such as Teoxane, Juvéderm and Restylane.

The longevity of dermal filler is variable between patients and can last anywhere between 6-18 months. Multiple factors can affect duration such as smoking, alcohol, UV exposure, excessive exercise, metabolism. No guarantee can be given to the longevity of each treatment.

Recovery time is usually to a minimum and normal activities can be resumed within 24 hours. Occasionally there are injection site reactions such as bruising, pain or itching. This is normal and should resolve if aftercare instructions are followed.

A follow-up appointment is arranged for 2-4 weeks after treatment. After your treatment, you will be given advice that should be followed to minimise complications. These include:

• No alcohol for 24 hours
• No excessive heat e.g., sauna, steam room or sunbeds
• No sleeping on your face. Try to sleep on your back until filler has set
• Remain upright for 4 hours following treatment
• No ice packs to be applied to the area
• No rubbing the face
• No makeup for 6 hours

No medical procedure is risk-free. The most common side effects are injection site reactions such as redness, swelling, bruising, bleeding, itching, and burning. More serious complications include anaphylaxis, lumps, asymmetry, infection, necrosis, and blindness. These are rare; however, Dr Linda is trained in recognising and treating these should they arise. A full emergency kit is available in the clinic.
